Lamport timestamp

Each participant increases its counter for local events and updates it when receiving a message. If event A caused event B, A's Lamport timestamp is lower.

For example, a receiver sets its counter above both its current value and the timestamp attached to an incoming message. Unrelated events can still receive an arbitrary order.
