Kubernetes operator

A Kubernetes operator extends the platform with a control loop: it observes declared configuration, compares it with the running system, and makes changes when they differ.

For example, an operator can notice a labeled workload and inject a routing sidecar into it. The controller is the part that performs this repeated observe-and-correct work.
